Using Vehicles
The island nation of Yara is a big place. To help get around it, there are several modes of transportation to choose from. These consist of horses, land vehicles, boats and other watercraft, airplanes, and helicopters. Some vehicles are dual mode, such as the ALHV-2 hovercraft, which can be used on land and in the water.
Most vehicles are used by either civilians and guerrillas, or by the military. Vehicles and horses in use by the military will be shown in red on the minimap. Those in use by non-military, and all parked vehicles, will be shown in white on the minimap.
There are a handful of vehicles that are for the player's use only. Some of these can be found around Yara, and some are earned by completing missions and activities. You will not see these vehicles used by any NPCs.
Almost every vehicle in the game can be used by the player. To take command of any parked vehicle or horse, approach the driver's position and use the "Enter" or "Mount" prompt. To take command of a moving non-military vehicle or horse, approach it to get it to stop (be careful not to get run over), then approach the driver and use the "Commandeer" prompt. Wait for the driver to exit, then enter the vehicle and drive away. To take command of a moving military vehicle, drive up alongside it and use the "Hijack" prompt to remove the driver and take control of the vehicle while it is moving; or shoot the driver, let the vehicle roll to a stop, then take control of it. To hijack tanks or helicopters, you must first disable them with an EMP device.
Many of the military vehicles and player-only vehicles are armed with weapons. Fixed, forward firing weapons can be used while driving the vihicles. Machine gun turrets on land vehicles and boats can be used by the player, but the vehicle will be stationary. With a co-op partner, one player can drive or pilot the vehicle while the other player operates the machine gun turret.
Unlocking and Accessing Vehicles
When a vehicle is used for the first time, the player will get a notice to take it to a vehicle pickup point. Doing so will unlock the vehicle and add it to the list of available vehicles that can be called for at vehicle pickup points. Each mode of transportation has its own pickup points scattered around the map of Yara.
Parked civilian vehicles can also be unlocked by scanning them with the phone. Horses and military vehicles cannot be scanned.
Use the vehicle pickup points to call for any unlocked vehicle of a particular mode, depending on the pickup point used. A menu of unlocked vehicles will be displayed. Select the desired vehicle, and in some cases its color, and it will appear at the pickup point. The menu will also show locked vehicles, with tips on how to unlock them.
Horses
Horses are probably the first mode of transportation you will use and unlock. They are a versatile and practical way to get around, especially early in the game on Isla Santuario. They are great for traveling quickly along the guerrilla trails throughout Yara. Although horses are technically not vehicles, they are grouped with vehicles because they use the same game mechanics for unlocking and accessing them.

Land Vehicles
This is the largest group of vehicles in Far Cry 6. There are 45 land vehicles, consisting of cars, trucks, jeeps, tanks, a motorcycle with sidecar, a quadrunner, and even a farm tractor. A large portion of these are military vehicles, which you will encounter often along the roads of Yara. Some are military supply trucks which can be hijacked to obtain resources such as medical supplies.
Check out the Land Vehicles of Yara page for details.
Boats & Watercraft
Boats are best used for accessing and exploring underwater locations, or for getting to small islands along the coast of Yara.
Check out the Boats of Yara page for details of all the boats and watercraft.
Helicopters
Helicopters provide a quick way to get around Yara, and can be used to gain an aerial view of things. They are more useful than planes because they can takeoff and land almost anywhere. The Buzzer micro-chopper can even takeoff and land on water. A couple of helicopters are armed with rockets, which can do a fair amount of damage. Use those to quickly destroy military vehicles and earn offensive upgrades for your Rides. A chopper with rockets also offers a quick and safe way to deal with Mythical Animals.
Be careful of restricted air spaces when flying. Flying into the range of an anti-aircraft site will trigger a warning. Leave the restricted air space or land immediately, or you will be shot down. Eliminate anti-aircraft sites to open up the skies for unrestricted flying.
Check out the Helicopters of Yara page for details of all the helicopters.
Airplanes

Airplanes provide many of the same features as helicopters. They are faster than choppers, but are limited on takeoff and landing options. The Angelito FW Turbo flying car provides great dual-mode capabilities.
